The 16th IFOAM Organic World Congress took place on June 18-20, 2008 in Modena, Italy.
A wide range of subjects were considered, covering the social, economic and technical aspects of the Organic Agriculture worldwide.
A substantial participation of delegates from Asian, Latin American and African countries offered the chance to discuss the role of Organic production for a sustainable development in the rural communities of developing countries, especially in the face of the present international agricultural markets trend and regulation.
The role of vocational training and higher education was also discussed during a workshop moderated by Cesare Zanasi from Bologna University. The necessity to stimulate common initiatives and knowledge networks among different national institutions emerged; this should be directed to an increase in the effectiveness of differentiated educational approaches, tailored to satisfy the different local needs.
